This animation was created for the the debut performance of Ben Lear’s Lillian: A Folk Opera. It was produced as a series extended clips, allowing the video technician to trigger scene changes in sync with the orchestra, rather than requiring the orchestra to play to a click track.
The video below is an approximation of how the animation looked projected across the two screens at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC, where the show debuted. The animation is also available on its own here.
The screens are dark for the first part of the animation, with only occasional distant lightning flashes. The main part begins about 2 minutes in.
